Shadowlands

written by William Nicholson

Teresa Wilkins' production of Shadowlands was rated as one of our best ever. Set in Oxford in the 1950s, it told the story of a writer and crusty old bachelor CS Lewis and his love affair with American divorcee Joy Graham. She becomes ill and eventually dies, leaving Lewis and his brother to take care of her young son. There was scarcely a dry eye in the theatre in the final scene when Lewis and the boy at last released their grief. First rate performances were given by Graham Johnson, Mandy Brown and Peter Laurie in the leading roles, backed by a solid supporting cast amongst whom Joe Wilkins stole everybody's hearts.
